About MATRAPPAR

History of Matrappar

Tourism Business Planning Study Program, Applied Master Program (Program Studi Perencanaan Pariwisata Program Magister Terapan –abbreviated into Matrappar) is currently the only master program (Level 8 of the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework) at Politeknik Negeri Bali. This study program is even listed as the first applied master program in tourism business planning among all Indonesian state polytechnics.

The idea of establishing Matrappar originated from the appointment by the Polytechnic Education Development Project (PEDP) to establish an applied master’s program for 12 state polytechnics in Indonesia in 2014 where Politeknik Negeri Bali was assigned to the tourism sector. Politeknik Negeri Bali then soon established an Applied Master Team consisting of all lecturers with doctoral qualifications (S3) in the Tourism Department (Jurusan Pariwisata). The team consists of Dr. I Gede Mudana, M.Sc. (Chairman); Dra. Ni Made Ernawati, MATM., Ph.D.; Dr. I Putu Astawa, S.E., M.M.; Dr. Ni Gst Nym Suci Murni, M.Par .; Dr. I Ketut Budarma, M.Par., MMTHRL.; and Dr. I Made Darma Oka, SST.Par., M.Par.

Through two proposals, and the last one with Number 01.0907/PLB/KL/2016 (February 15, 2016), Matrappar received approval through silemkerma.dikti.go.id upload on January 19, 2017. Through subsequent improvements until early 2018 with the issuance of the latest nomenclature which emphasized the difference between academic masters (universities, institutes and high education) and applied masters (polytechnics), Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Number 1246/KPT/I/ 2018 concerning Permits to Open the Tourism Business Planning Study Program, Applied Master Program, Politeknik Negeri Bali finally came out on December 28, 2018.

Matrappar was officially launched on May 17, 2019 at the Widya Padma Building, Politeknik Negeri Bali. The first matriculation was held from 02 to 06 September 2018 by presenting Dr. Ir. Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, M.Sc., Deputy Governor of Bali and General Chairperson of the Bali Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in his studium generale while the inaugural lecture begins September 12, 2019.

With green tourism as a development paradigm in higher education tridarma (three duties) in addition to the existence of Bali which is very popular as an international tourist destination, in the era of globalization and a time when Indonesia is increasingly prioritizing vocational education, Matrappar has accepted students since 2019 with a total of 33 students, namely 17 male and 16 women who came from various disciplines and a number of provinces in Indonesia.
